Tinsel & Treasures Christmas Competition and Exhibition

Get crafty this Christmas by creating a festive masterpiece. Dust off your old and unused decorations to turn them into a display fit for the festive season. Drop your ornament off to The Faraday Centre to be a part of our special Christmas Exhibition for everyone to enjoy.

Come along, view the collection as it gets created throughout the Christmas season, and vote on your favorite creation to see who will take home the Peoples Choice Award.


Please download the entry form by clicking here and bring along a printed copy of the completed form when you drop off your completed artwork. 

Entries open Wednesday 20 July 2019, and close Wednesday 18 December 2019. Peoples Choice Award will be drawn December 30 2019. 



Entries are invited from artists who currently reside, work, or study in Hawke's Bay. Employees of the Napier City Council will be eligible to enter this competition, as the judges are not part of the Council.

Artwork Eligibility

As an entrant you must guarantee that

  • the work is a genuine original
  • the work does not infringe on any NZ copyright laws
  • The work is the sole work of the artist entering (unless it is listed as a collaboration from a business)
  • All works have been created within the 12 months prior to the date of entry.
  • Works entered have not been previously entered in any other competition.


  • The base of the submitted piece cannot exceed 25cm x 25cm
  • Height cannot exceed more than 80cm in height
  • Weight cannot exceed 5kg

 Limitations on entry

  • Participants may enter the competition up to two times.
  • Each piece must have a separate entry form.

Acceptance of Works

  • Acceptance of submissions will be at the sole discretion of the Faraday Centre.
  • Each Submission can only be entered in 1 category.


  • All entries must be fixed securely, and be able to sit on a flat surface.
  • All entries must be ready for display at the time of submitting your piece          
  • (we cannot add fresh items to it)
  • Each submission must have a title and short description (no more than 100 words)


  • All submissions must have the following information either written on, or attached to the back or underside of the work:

Name, and title of the piece.

  • The work must NOT be signed or labelled on the front or side of the base.


  • Insurance is the sole responsibility of the entrant while the work is in transit and for the duration of the exhibition. All reasonable care will be taken in the handling of all entries, but no liability for loss or damage will be accepted by the Faraday Centre Museum, Napier City Council, or its officers and/ or assistants.

Judging of Competition

  •  Choice award will be notified by the 4th January.

Notification of Winners  

  • Winners will be notified by email or phone.


  • Your personal information will only be disclosed to the Promoter for the purposes of promoting the event. No personal details such as address or phone numbers will be given out.
